If I were to give you the one thing that would attract money and success to you and your networking business, would you do it? Unfortunately, a lot of network marketers starting out don’t have a fighting chance to see the money and success this industry brings to people. They are taught the same old stuff, write 100 names, use the five foot rule, buy leads, and on and on. If that was how someone told me we were going to market and run my business, I’d run and run fast!
There is only one way to achieve money and success in any business whether it is an MLM, network marketing or a more traditional business. You must set worthwhile goals and become emotionally vested in their outcome.
SET WORTHWHILE GOALS: Successful network marketers are a different breed. They are possibility pathfinders and eagerly set new trails where few others have gone. They set goals that are big and interesting enough to really fire up their emotions.
As an example, coming from a corporate environment, my personal goal was to have financial independence providing me with the ability to create, teach, and learn with other likeminded people. My dreams are big and fun and full of new and exciting explorations both physically and mentally. I never stop setting goals for myself and the money and success just follows.
GOALS BASED ON WANTS: Only you can decide what your goal is going to be. Although other people, a spouse, parent, employer or associate may offer suggestions, YOU and only YOU, can make the final decision. As a network marketer I’ve had close friends look at me like I was crazy for going against the norm and believing with every cell in my body that the network marketing industry was a fabulous opportunity with which to achieve my goal. I had to make a decision that my goal was worthwhile enough to hold myself to a course that was going to be criticized and questioned.
You see, people with large and life inspiring goals rarely follow the path of MOST traveled, they follow the path LESS traveled.
BE EMOTIONALLY TIED TO YOUR GOAL: The goal you set should be based in something you WANT not in something you NEED. There is no inspiration in needs; THERE IS INSPIRATION IN WANTS. Few people actually take the time to really know what the want. Most just follow what they’ve been taught about getting a “good” job and working hard and then they’ll have what they want, as if anyone else could know that! In most cases, it will get them what they need, like food, clothes and shelter, but it rarely gets them what they want.

Business and personal interactions are very similar in both reach and depth. In business we all want to get ahead and help others so long as it helps the business grow in its ability to help others. Most people in businesses want to grow the company and be successful inside that company. Likewise most people want to grow themselves and be successful inside their lives.
What are the similarities? The start is at the core beliefs that we generally hold to be true. They might be that we want our health to be good and we want the company to be healthy both financially and in the work environment. We want to be popular and have praise from others; likewise we want out company to be popular in what it offers and receive praise from media. We want a sense of pride in accomplishment and gain self confidence from our experience; likewise we want our company to gain in its ability to foster in its employees these qualities.
There are many similarities like this that allow us to grow both our person and company to greater heights. How we get there is a matter of application of leadership values. If we as individuals foster a work environment that encourages others, provides positive feedback, gives challenging work assignments that engage the mind and body and compensate for time and effort given, then the company will grow exponentially if our product or service is on target with demand.
The majority of people enjoy working in an environment that fosters this kind of quality support from management. When our employees are happy they pass that along to our customers. When our customers feel heard and appreciated, they return to us loyalty and continued business.
In the end it is people doing business with those they trust and like that profits both the customer and company.

My buddy’s frustration is quite typical of newbies to the world of doing MLM online. I find that what helps these people the most is education. “Education is power” is one of my upline sponsor’s mottos, and it applies very much to a person who wants to successfully promote online. Other relevant mottos (just in case you want to know) are:
- Don’t hit on people.
- Do not close people.
- Be realistic. Do not make pie-in-the-sky claims.

These four mottos are very important, but I think this fifth one about education may be the most important of all when it comes to online marketing. While the MLM industry as a whole has become more credible and solid over the last few decades, the basic offline promotional techniques have remained the same. It’s important to be educated in these offline techniques, but they don’t change much so once you master them you’re in fat city.
The online world is completely different. It’s fast-paced, constantly changing, and demands constant learning. Even web marketing leaders like Chris Brogan, Brian Clark, and Seth Godin are continually revamping their ideas of what’s possible, practical, and people-friendly for the average Joe when it comes to online marketing. In a world that moves this fast, ongoing education is a “have to” activity, not a “want to” kind of thing.
How to Educate Yourself in Online MLM Marketing
If you are like my buddy, you’re probably scratching your head (if not actively tearing out your hair) trying to figure out how you’re going to fit yet one more task–ongoing education–into your already impossible online MLM marketing plan. You’re probably blogging, article marketing, forum marketing, and doing SEO. Or maybe you’re just blogging and having a hard time keeping up with just that.
How in the world are you going to fit in education about online marketing? By making as many online marketing activities as possible serve double duty as learning experiences. Here are two examples of how your online activities can serve double duty.
1. Comment and Learn
To increase your online visibility, it’s always a good idea to read other people’s blogs and add insightful comments to their posts. Depending on whose blogs you read, the time you spend adding comments can also serve as classroom hours for your online marketing education. Choose to comment only on the blogs of thought leaders who are in line with your style of online marketing. This helps you in two ways: first, commenting on highly-ranked blogs will increase your online presence; second, you have to read the post before you can comment, and you are bound to learn something in the process.
When you comment on a blog post, really read the post first and think about what the author is trying to teach you. That way you actually learn something, and you can leave a comment that actually means something. Comments like “Great post. I liked it!” don’t really enhance your online presence. If you’re going to comment, learn something from the post, and then leave a comment that will add some benefit to the conversational thread. As you submit your article to one or two major directories do a search on your keywords and see what your competition is writing. You’ll learn something–whether it’s good, bad, or ugly. You’ll see some really great writing that you may want to emulate. You’ll see some really bad writing that will remind you not to be a slacker and write sloppy copy. And you’ll see some intriguing ideas that would never otherwise cross your mind. Taking just a few minutes to do a quick scan in the article directory after you submit your own articles will give you a quick but jam-packed education. It’s short and sweet.

Research is the first step to success
Frankly, the process of making money from home starts before you sign up. The key is to find the right MLM business opportunity for you. Your search shouldn’t be just about making money. It should be about finding a product or service that you like and eventually develop a passion for what it does to help people or make the world a better place to live. Even when you find a company you like you must gather additional information.
Questions you should ask are:
· Is this business ahead of the bubble in its industry?
· How many other MLM companies are offering similar products or services?
· How much product do I have to purchase every month? Is it more than I can consume in that time frame?
· Is it realistic to make money with this company given their compensation plan and the way they require me to build the business?
· What percent of the money paid out is in residual income compared to one time performance payouts
· Who is my sponsor? What kind of team building and leadership experience does he have?

To make money from home you have work with a MLM business opportunity that is on the cutting edge of the industry with proven products and services. If you find you are past the bubble of opportunity or the competition is high from other MLM companies the chances of succeeding are much more difficult.
You have to ask, “How aggressive is the company at staying ahead of the industry?” Is the company constantly looking for better ways to serve the public or has it stagnated and looking similar to the competition? Being ahead of the curve means longevity and that means long term income for you as long as the products or services are useful and in demand.
Just as important, are customers happy with the products or services? It’s pretty simple to check out the overall satisfaction for the company and what it offers with the Internet. Do a search to see what past customers and business partners are saying about them. You can always expect some negative comments, however, if you find whole web sites dedicated to the dissatisfaction of the company you might want to steer away from them.
Learn what you are obligated to do once you sign up
What is your initial investment to the company? What do you get for your money? Is there a start up kit and what is in it? Do you have annual renewal fees with this business? How long will it take and what do you need to do to get that money back?
Many nutritional based MLM businesses require you purchase $100 or more of product a month. When you have a love and passion for the products you can live with this, however, if you signed up because you could see a big opportunity to make money from home you won’t last very long. Make sure you really want the products offered before you sign up and are required to purchase them every month.
Remember, you will be asking business associates to sign, use the same products and make the same commitment. When you have a passion for the products you can do that, but it is hard to ask people to do something that you aren’t sold on.
Compensation
I could spend a lot of time talking about this subject. There’s so much to share. Here are the keys to finding the right MLM business opportunity:
· The company must pay out at around 50 percent of its gross income to its independent business partners every month. Watch for company’s that pay out too little or too much that’s a huge red flag.
· How complicated is the compensation plan? How fair is the compensation plan to every business partner? Does it lean heavily toward the people at the top or can the little guy make a fair amount of money, too? How easy is it to promote from one level to another? Where in the compensation plan will you begin to make a $1,000 or more in income and what do you have to do to get there?
· Residual income is a key for me. Compare how much money is paid up front for customer and business partner growth compared to the long-term residual income. Residual income is what will eventually set you free. It’s money that will come in month after month whether you work your business or not.
Who Is Your Sponsor and What Kind of Leadership Skills Does He Have?
Who sponsors you into a MLM business opportunity is as important as determining the company and the products or services they offer. One of the biggest mistakes most people make in this industry is signing up with people who don’t know what they are doing and don’t know how to teach you how to build your MLM business.
Make sure you find a sponsor who either knows what he is doing or has experienced business associates who are willing to work with you.

You must go to work and work the business
